In Edge Chromium, do you want to browse two pages simultaneously without having to open a new window each time?

When you want to browse several web pages at the same time, you can unlink your tabs to have several windows next to each other, or use the split screen. This last function allows you to have 2 web pages in the same window.

Split screen

Click on the 3 dots at the top right of your screen. Then in the menu, click on Split screen.

Your screen splits in two. You have the option to:

  • Display a new web page: by entering keywords or the exact address in the address bar
  • View an already open tab
  • View a page you usually visit, by clicking Frequently Visited.

The choice is yours.

Once selected, the new page will appear next to the current page.

Exit split screen view

To the right of the address bar, a new icon appears. If you click on it, you will stop splitting the screen.

Setup the split screen

When you hover over one of the screens, you can see, at the top right, 3 dots and a cross. The cross allows you to close the screen and the 3 dots to set them.

Click on the 3 dots to open the settings menu.

In the settings, you can:

  • Open current page in a new tab
  • Exit the splitscreen view
  • Swap left and right tabs
  • Split screen horizontally
  • Adjust the behavior of the split screen when you click on a link:
    • Link tabs: When you click on a link, it will open in the shared screen.
    • Unlink tabs: When you click on a link, it will open in another tab and not in the split screen.

The setting of tabs in the split screen, Link tabs, is interesting. Indeed, it allows you to keep a window open with links in the left screen and open the links in the right screen.

Lets try for example by opening the page of all the Microsoft 365 Tricks Mistytips. Open it and split your screens. As soon as you click on a link, it will open in the right screen. No more juggling between your different windows.
