If your Excel file is unusually large or running slower than normal, it’s important to check its performance.
An Excel file can be weighed down by formatting on empty cells (for example, coloring an entire row when 5 columns are filled) or unused styles. It is possible to optimize your file.
To do this, on the Review menu, in the Performance section, click Check Performance.
If you don‘t see this feature, open your file with Excel Online.
A panel on the right opens. It lists possible optimizations.
You can see the details of each of the proposed optimizations.
In the example, Excel suggests that we remove the text alignement, properties and row height from empty cells.
You can apply the optimizations one at a time (Optimise sheet). Or you can Optimise all.
Excel will optimize blank cells, so your data won‘t get corrupted.
