To manage multiple files simultaneously, use tabs in File Explorer for improved organization.
Since Windows 11, File Explorer has been working with a tab system, which is very handy when working on several folders simultaneously.
At the very top of the window, click on the + to the right of the main tab. This opens a new tab.
In each tab, you can choose a different folder. This allows multiple folders to be kept open at the same time.
When you right–click on the tabs, you have the option to:
- Close Active Tab
- Close other tabs
- Close tabs on the right
- Duplicate Tab
If you want to separate a tab from the rest (so that it‘s in a separate window), select it and drag it until it comes off.
It is always possible to do Windows+E to open a new File Explorer window.
